PW Building Services were recently presented with an award by Bovis Lend Lease UK for the sustained high level of performance that they continue to deliver on the Manchester Joint Hospitals project. The award was presented at the annual Performance & Supply Chain award ceremony held in London. Bovis Lend Lease project staff commended PW Building Services for their integrity, high level of cooperation and the excellence of their delivery both prior to and throughout 2009. PW Building Services have worked at MJH since May 2006 and have successfully handed over 12 schemes on time or early during this period. The value of the schemes they have undertaken at MJH has ranged from £200,000 to £2,600,000. The schemes undertaken have been a mixture of refurbishment of existing buildings, new builds, fit-out of new spaces as well as structural modifications and extension of existing buildings. PW have provided a turnkey package approach by delivering both building fabric and M&E.. Generally the projects undertaken have been land locked by live departments meaning that particular attention needed to be paid to the generation of noise and dust as well as access for workers, materials and waste removal. Various temporary works measures were implemented by PW Building Services to maintain fire escapes, integrity of fire compartments and detection systems and to segregate the works from live areas with buffer zones. In some cases M&E services had to be diverted out of the works site to maintain provision to the surrounding areas. It was also necessary in to work within live areas to bring in M&E services to the new facilities or to create circulation links between new and old. M&E services were generally taken from the site wide ring mains meaning that shutdowns were required for each service connection, having a direct impact on surrounding departments and in some cases the whole site. .The outcomes and benefits achieved can be summarised as follows: 12 projects delivered on time or early on the MJH scheme. PW Building Services played a key role in maintaining the confidence of the Client in BLL's ability to deliver to programme. An excellent relationship was formed between BLLand the PW site teams. PW Building Services operated in line with BLL core values. PW Building Services are consistently in the top tier of the subcontractor's safety league table. PW Building Services site management formed excellent relationships with the other parties involved on the site and were exemplary ambassadors for the MJH project when dealing with these parties. As a result of their professionalism, reliability and high standards PW Building Services now also independently carry out works for other parties involved on the site.
